Found their OS Recovery utility which is supposed to download the proper version once you enter the laptops Service Tag. Two - Was told I could get it from Dells website. OEM keys do not work with retail versions of Windows. I found out later I CANNOT use that on this system because it needs to be an OEM Dell copy of WIndows, otherwise the Product Key will NOT work. One - I was told was to get a copy of Windows from Microsoft website. And every time it has come to yet another dead end. I've been following everything to the letter as far as how to re-install Windows on my laptop. I need this fixed ASAP before the HDD craps out for good.ĮDIT - I don't know why this is getting DV'd. It has to be made for Dell laptops and not a retail version. Is there ANYWHERE ELSE I can get a genuine copy of a Dell/OEM Windows 7 Pro? I already have my original key. I thought this would be just a few hours of work. Upon running, Chose Dell, Laptop model, Windows version, After clicking DOWNLOAD button, It opens the browser to a link on Dells website which turns into a blank black windows saying "Not found". So I was told to get the Windows ISO Download Tool as it has Dell downloads. When attempting to download, it keeps saying "Unable to connect to backend" or something along those lines. Trying to get a PROPER copy of Windows 7 Pro 64-Bit for this laptop so I can install it on a new SSD via a USB drive. It's just one thing after another it seems.
